Meredith Kessler and Craig Alexander top Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens
Melanie McQuaid finishes second, and Elliot Holtham third.
American Meredith Kessler led the swim 25:18, surrendered the lead to Victoria’s Melanie McQuaid (who rode the top split of 2:26:42) during the closing stages of the bike, and then regained the lead 3.2 km into the run and finished with the fastest run (1:21:24) to grab hold of the title (4:18:05). McQuaid finished in 4:23:22 to take second, and American Lauren Barnett finished third (4:29:01).

Australia’s Craig Alexander was 1:32 down after the swim but he hammered out the top ride of 2:16:28 to lead Vancouver’s Elliot Holtham (who rode an identical bike split) by 2 seconds., and Australia’s Luke Bell by 5 seconds. From there Alexander posted a 1:12:49 half marathon to earn the victory in 3:55:23 at Lake Stevens, Washington. Bell ran a tough 1:13:22 to push Alexander and took second (3:55:59), and Elliot comfortably claimed third in 3:59:40.
