This weekend, Canadian Mathis Beaulieu, a multiple World Cup medallist, opened his season in impressive fashion in Mexico.
At the Americas Cup in La Paz on Saturday, it was a dominant showing for coach Parker Spencer and his USA Triathlon Project Podium squad, who claimed the top four positions.
The race ultimately belonged to Beaulieu. After losing a small amount of time to swim leader Blade Bullard, Beaulieu bridged across on the bike with teammate Kellar Norland. The move proved decisive, setting up the Canadian for the run.
Once on the final leg, Beaulieu’s class showed. A 14:14 run split over 5km secured the victory by 29 seconds.
Bullard recorded the fastest run split of the day in 14:12 to claim the silver medal, while Norland followed four seconds later to take bronze.
Beaulieu will next race in Haikou on March 21st, with additional WTCS appearances expected later in the season.
