Manocchio and Stampfli win Ironman 70.3 Pucon

Unfortunately the race saw the passing of Ivan Paez.

The Organization of the Ironman 70.3 Pucon, expresses its deepest regret and informs that the athlete Ivan Paez, from Argentina, participating in the 30 – 34 category, had a cardiopulmonary arrest, during the cycling stage near by the aerodrome of Pucon.

After cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, the emergency network transferred the competitor immediately to the hospital of Pucon to provide advanced maneuvers. Unfortunately, after all the efforts, the competitor couldn’t been stabilized, and died in the hospital. The triathlon community mourns his loss.

Manocchio is the new champion

With a time of 4:01:59, Brazilian Guilherme Manocchio won “the most beautiful race in the world”, Ironman 70.3 Pucon. In second place was his fellow countryman Santiago Ascencio, and the USA’s Michael Lovato finished third.

“This is the first time I won an Ironman 70.3. I was here in the year 2007 and I finished in the 5th position. I’m happy, because it was a hard race, especially in cycling. Besides, in this competition there are very good athletes, for that reason it was not an easy race”, said Manocchio.

Italy’s Daniel Fontana, the defending champion, suffered a puncture during the bike that put him out of contention.

Stampfli wins the women’s race

Switzerland’s Carla Stampfli captured top spot in the women’s race with a time of 4:38:03, while Chilean Valentina Carvallo took second place with a time of 4:40:23, just 1 minute and 16 seconds behind. In the third place was the USA’s Heather Gollnick.
