Luke Bell and Mary Beth Ellis win Ironman Mont-Tremblant
Canada's Sean Bechtel is tenth, in his Ironman debut.
Today’s Ironman Mont-Tremblant, also doubling as the North American Championship, featured heat, stiff winds from all directions, and a hard fought battle in the men’s race with Australian Luke Bell coming out on top. While, American Mary Beth Ellis’ 4:58:18 secured another Ironman victory for her.
During the bike, two distinct groups of men battled with each other the entire way, trying to shake free to take the lead on their own. In the end, Australian Paul Ambrose entered T2 first followed by Bell just 6 seconds behind. Bell then fought off several cramps during the marathon and ran 2:57:08 to win the title in 8:26:06. Canada’s Sean Bechtel finished 10th (8:47:24) in his Ironman debut.

Ellis put her stamp on this race with a 4:58:18 ride and essentially went on cruise control after that to claim the title in 9:07:56. Behind her, it was a race to see who would end up second through fourth. With a solid run of 3:08:32 Australia’s Rebekah Keat finished second (9:16:55), Germany’s Anja Beranek third (9:17:26), and Great Britain’s Liz Blatchford fourth (9:17:44). Canada’s Annie Gervais finished 15th among pro women (10:20:25).
