Lucy Charles-Barclay a Last-Minute Addition to the Challenge Roth Start List

Incredibly exciting news this morning with the last-minute addition of Lucy Charles-Barclay to this weekend’s Challenge Roth start line.

As she shared in a video on Instagram: “There is one race on the triathlon calendar that means more to me than most, and in January of this year I was so close to signing on the dotted line and committing to racing, but unfortunately my body said no and I had to let that dream slide for this year which was really really sad… However, I’m in a slightly different position now. I’m happy, I’m healthy, my body is saying yes, my mind is saying yes…

“I sent Felix a little video yesterday to which he called me back almost immediately and we had a very exciting and emotional phone call… I can’t quite believe it, I’m so excited… I’m on this start line because I can, because my body is saying yes…”

Charles-Barclay first raced Roth in 2018, where she finished runner-up, before winning the iconic race in 2019. This weekend will mark her first return to Challenge Roth in six years.

While Laura Philipp has had to withdraw, Charles-Barclay’s late addition sets up a highly anticipated showdown with Kat Matthews, adding even more excitement to an already exceptional professional field. With world-class athletes lining up in both the men’s and women’s races, Challenge Roth is once again shaping up to be one of the most anticipated and magical events of the season.

Triathlon Magazine will be on the ground reporting live from Roth. Stay tuned.
