Lionel Sanders and Mirinda Carfrae rule the day at Ironman 70.3 Muskoka

Hamilton’s Lionel Sanders exited the water down 3:14, but used the top ride (2:20:54), and run (1:10:58), to win the 2013 edition of Ironman 70.3 Muskoka. Even more impressive is the fact that the Elite level duathlete turned triathlete, topped a quality field led by Germany’s Andreas Raelert (4:07:50), and Tom Davison of New Zealand (4:11:29).

Vancouver’s Rachel McBride had the top ride of 2:38:12 and left T2 with a 3:34 lead over Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae. However, that lead was not large enough, the 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion and 2010 Ironman World Champion chased McBride down with the top women’s run of 1:18:09 to take the women’s title in 4:29:34. McBride had to settle for second (4:31:30), and Lisa Mensink of Calgary finished third (4:44:16).
