Let’s play in my backyard: Fans want Jan Frodeno to take on Lionel Sanders

Last week we reported on Lionel Sanders’ invitation to Jan Frodeno for a race. After Frodeno asked, in a post on Instagram, for fans to come up with a fitness challenge, Sanders offered to pay Frodeno’s expenses over to the United States to race him at Ironman Coeur d’Alene next weekend.

Today Frodeno responded to both Sanders, and the overwhelming number of people who responded to his post – they feel he should take Sanders on in a race. It sounds like the German is up for that challenge, but suggests that its time Sanders came over to Europe to race.

“You guys have helped me a lot, actually, trying to find some goals. Over 90 per cent of people think I should go head to head with Lionel,” the three-time Kona champion said in an Instagram post today. “What do you reckon, Lionel? Thanks for your generous offer of flying me in … after my last visa issues I’m not to sure I’m keen on coming to the US. Besides, I always come to race you. Why don’t you come race me? Seriously? Let’s play in my backyard. Virtual. I don’t know … what do you reckon?”

Now we’ll just have to wait for more details.

“The people have spoken … Me Vs @lsanderstri will happen,” Frodeno writes. “It’s now just a matter of what, when and where.”
