Four-time world triathlon champion Leanda Cave began her bid to make the CommenwealthGames British triathlon dream team with Helen Jenkins and Jodie Stimpson. Cave won her first return to short course racing at the La Pas PATCO Triathlon Pan American Cup in Mexico on Saturday in a time of 2:04:15. It was Cave’s fastest run of the day (36:45) that let her pull away from second place Poala Diaz of Mexico who finished 30 seconds behind and Andrea Gutierrez  also of Mexico who was 45 seconds behind Cave.

Despite serving a 15 second penalty Cave, proved she hasn’t lost any sharpness. The non-wetsuit swim saw only two athletes out front with most women swimming around 20:25 including Cave. After the race she tweeted: “Back to #ITU triathlon racing & very happy to have a win under my belt #RoadToTheCommonwealthGames.

On the men’s side, Mexico’s Cesar Saracho won in 1:52:53 followed by the Ukraine’s Rostyslav Pevtsov in second with a time of  153:01 and US athlete John O’Neill in 1:53:10.
