British star suffers brain bleed after crash
Photo by: KEVIN MACKINNONThe good news is that she’s recovering. The bad news is that Great Britain’s Laura Siddall (pictured above at last year’s Ironman World Championship) was involved in a serious bike crash at Ironman Brazil last weekend, which resulted in a few days in hospital.
The popular British star had one of her best seasons last year that included a 10th-place finish in Kona and a fourth-place finish at Challenge Roth.

Siddall was nearing the half-way point of the bike in Brazil when she crashed.
“I was involved in an accident,” she said in a video posted on her Instagram site. “I was 5 km from the turn. Unfortunately that’s the last thing I remember … I woke up on the side of the road with the medical team in an ambulance already there. They took me off to hospital.”
While Siddall had “little on her body” in the way of injuries apart from some road rash and bruises, a CT scan did find a “slight brain bleed,” she said.
After a second CT scan she was cleared to leave hospital and fly back to her home in Boulder.

“I’m just grateful there is no further damage,” Siddall said, thanking the Ironman Brazil organizers for their help. “Obviously I’ll be lying low for a little bit … I’m OK, out of hospital, and will be flying back to Boulder, and we’ll go onwards from there.”
