Laundry named as captain’s pick for Collins Cup, Zaferes and Knibb named to Team USA

Final members of teams for race on August 28 announced

Canada’s Jackson Laundry will be part of the Collins Cup at the end of the month. Team International captains Lisa Bentley and Simon Whitfield selected Laundry along with Australian’s Ellie Salthouse and Sarah Crowley, along with New Zealand’s Kyle Smith as the final members of the team that will race in Samorin, Slovakia on August 28.

Team US captains Mark Allen and Karen Smyers have added Olympians Katie Zaferes and Taylor Knibb, along with Chris Leiferman an Justin Metzler to the American team. According to captains Natascha Badmann and Normann Stadler, Team Europe will be bolstered by Germany’s Sebastian Kienle, Denmark’s Daniel Baekkegard and Britain’s Kat Matthews and Emma Pallant-Browne.

Today’s announcement adds yet another Ironman world champion to the stacked European team.

“I am grateful to have been awarded a Captain’s Pick. It is great that the professionals have their own organisation and now, a flagship race,” said Olympic bronze medalist Zaferes. “It is an honour to be part of it and for me to be competing alongside my fellow Americans as part of Team US in The Collin Cup. Whilst beating the competition is the goal, the professional camaraderie generated as professionals unite to make our sport better is the reason this event is so special.”

“I am excited to race at The Collins Cup,” said Kienle. “I have been training and preparing to be in the best shape for this race. I am looking forward to competing against the best in the world and helping Team Europe lift the 2021 Collins Cup.”
