Finland to host third European edition of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship

Ironman will host the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland. Lahti was in the running for the event along with Klangenfurt, Austria, the home of Ironman Austria. The race will take place on August 26 and 27, 2023.

Since Ironman began rotating the venue for the 70.3 world championship its been held twice in Europe – Zell am See-Kaprun, Austria 2015 and Nice, France in 2019.

The rotating series began in Mont-Tremblant when the host village for Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant became the first Ironman world championship venue outside the United States.

Lahti, a city of 120,000, is about 100 km north east of Helsinki. It was recently declared “Europe’s Green Capital of 2021” by the European Union.

The 2020 Ironman 70.3 World Championship was supposed to take place in Taupo, New Zealand, but was canceled due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. This year the race will be held in St. George, Utah, on Sept. 17 and 18, with the race going to Taupo in 2022, (Dec. 10 and 11).
