Kona Dispatches: Ironman Week Officially Kicks-off!

On Saturday, Oct 5th Ironman week began with the inaugural Ho`ala (Rise to the Occasion) ocean swim, which followed the Ironman race course.

This event was held in support of the Kona Kai Opua Canoe Club. Starting with the official Ironman cannon, competitors enjoyed the aqua blue waters of Kailua Bay at Dig-Me Beach. Race conditions were favourable with gentle swells.

Pete Jacobs won in 50:54 and his wife, Jamie, was the first woman in 59:43.

There was a good turnout with 150 people finishing the race. For many it was a chance to have an escorted tour of the famous Ironman swim, test out their race suit and fitness and also have a chance to check out their competition.

Follow the action in Kona this week with age-group competitor Linnea Humphrey and her brother Gord.
