Kona Dispatch – The “main’ event
Thursday brings the annual Underpants Run to Kona.
In its 17th year, this event has grown to be a major fundraiser for charities in Kona, and continues to provide some comic relief for stressed out athletes and something fun for families and friends. The pictures speak for themselves.
Thursday evening is also the official welcome dinner and athletes meeting. The theme of this year’s race is: “Mohala i ka wai ka maka oka pua” which translates to “Unfolded by the water are the faces of the flowers” – the importance to this race is that each competitor from around the world makes us the flowers that are part of the Ironman lei. – Linnea Humphrey
