John O’Kelly, husband of Triathlon Canada’s Sheila O’Kelly loses battle with cancer

It is with great sadness and regret that Triathlon Canada announces the passing of John O’Kelly, lifelong partner of our colleague, national and international sport administrator, Sheila O’Kelly.

John was a passionate triathlete completing his first triathlon in 1984, and continued training and competing in triathlons right up until being diagnosed with cancer last year. John represented Canada at eight world championship events from 2004 to 2013.

John’s energy and passion for life will be very sadly missed by all his family and friends, and he will particularly be remembered for his humour and love of music.

John and Sheila celebrate 40 years of marriage this year. He leaves behind four wonderful children, Cian, Ronagher, Deirdre and Orlagh and eight beautiful grand children, of whom he was very proud.

On behalf of the entire Canadian triathlon community, our thoughts and sympathies are with Sheila and the O’Kelly family at this time of deep sadness and loss.
