Jacobs and Schildknecht win Ironman Florida
Both set new course records.
Jessica Jacobs (USA) successfully defended her title and Ronnie Schildknecht (SUI) won the men’s crown at Ironman Florida today.
Both won in dominant fashion.
Jacobs trailed out of the water (1:02:03) but once she got on the bike the race was essentially over. She rode the top split of 4:53:42, and added a blistering 2:53:26 marathon (another top split) to finish in a world class time of 8:55:10. Fellow American Mackenzie Madison crossed the line next in 9:10:21, followed by Belgium’s Sofie Goos in 9:22:21.
Meanwhile, Schildknecht put on a clinic in the men’s race. Also trailing after the swim (51:18), he ramped it up during the bike (4:19:55) and run (2:43:47) to finish in 7:59:42 – the only athlete to go sub eight hours. Maxim Kriat of the Ukraine was second (8:10:43), and American Justin Daerr was third (8:18:02).
Listed as a Canadian age grouper, Anders Hjortlund finished 18th overall (9:04:01) and won the men’s 35-39 age group.
