Pros vie for triathlon’s largest prize purse Sunday.

Many of the world’s best triathletes will be in West Des Moines, Iowa this Sunday to grab their share of the $1 million dollar (US) prize purse at the fourth annual Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup. The winner of the men’s and women’s events will each receive $200 000.

The field includes three Olympic gold medalists (Simon Whitfield – defending champion, Jan Frodeno, and Emma Snowsill), the current ITU number one ranked male (Alexander Brukhankov) and female (Barbara Riveros Diaz), four former world champions, and defending women’s champion Emma Moffatt (AUS).

Other Canadians to join Whitfield in the event include: Kathy Tremblay, Paula Findlay, Kyla Coates, Kyle Jones, Andrew Russell, Andrew McCartney, and Jeffrey Phillips.

Hy-Vee Triathlon.com will carry a live video stream of all the weekend’s events. The elite women’s race starts at 12:30 pm (CDT), and at 3:30pm (CDT) for the elite men.
