According to Ironman, over 100, 000 athletes aim to qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Kona every year at Ironman events all over the world. Only 2,000 of the fittest and fastest qualify. But there is another way of getting to the start line if you don’t manage to qualify and that’s through an auction.

Established in 2003, the Ironman Foundation has raised thousands of dollars for a number of charities through its Annual Kona Auction, which allows athletes to bid on one of four special slots to the Ironman World Championship. This year’s race takes place on October 10, 2015. The first round of bidding began last Sunday April 12 at noon. For a four week period, one entry will be auctioned off a week. Each slot begins with a minimum bid of US $10,000.

All of the money raised for all four slots goes to support the Ironman Foundation’s Community Fund Program which has provided over US $28.5 million in grants and donations to a variety of global, national, regional and local non-profit organizations since its inception.

Interested bidders should go to ebay.com and search 2015 Ironman World Championship Slot.
