Ironman St. George continues to struggle

Registration numbers are down from last year.

Since its sold out debut in 2010, Ironman St. George has struggled to get back to those registration numbers (1700 registered vs 2500 in the inaugural year).

What seems to be the barrier to larger participation numbers? The race is in a beautiful setting, and athletes that participate in the race come away with a positive experience. Is the course too tough? Does it take place at a bad time of the year?

Local officials in Utah are concerned that the World Triathlon Corporation could pull the race. And we are sure that Kelowna’s Heather Wurtele doesn’t want the race to go anywhere since she’s won it twice.
