In a year with many races added to the triathlon scene by brands like Challenge Family and Ironman, the sport has expanded on an international scale with particular growth in Asia. Ironman recently announced the addition of another Asian race, this time returning to China with Ironman 70.3 Xiamen. Ironman currently has several races in various Asian countries, but Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China were discontinued after 2010 unexpectedly.

For Canadian triathletes interested in travelling for a destination race in 2016, Ironman 70.3 Xiamen is a great opportunity to combine racing with sightseeing. Xiamen, a port city on China’s southeast coast, has a great climate for triathlon and beautiful scenery. Most notable of its tourist destinations is Gulangyu Island, rich with stunning nature and historic architecture.

Ironman 70.3 Xiamen is scheduled to take place on November 6th, 2016. It will offer 50 age-group qualifying slots for the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, Tennessee and 15 qualifying slots for the 2017 Ironman World Championship in Kona. Details on the course and registration to come.
