Ironman races galore: Buffalo Springs, Coeur d’Alene, France

Canadian's shine.

Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs

Quebec’s Magali Tisseyre and British Columbia’s Angela Naeth finished first and second today at Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs (Texas). Naeth biked a race best 2:22:41 to take the race lead, but Tisseyre ran the best half marathon (1:27:38) to overtake her for the win (4:23:21). Chris Lieto’s top bike split of 2:08:04 created enough of a lead for the Californian (3:55:27) to stay away from New Zealand’s Terenzo Bozzone (3:57:06). Orillia’s Brent Poulsen finished eighth (4:06:52).

Ironman France

Spain’s Marcel Zamora won his fifth straight while Belgium’s Tine Deckers won her second straight in record time today at Ironman France.

Zamora came out of the water fourth (52:12), but put together the best bike (4:46:39) and run (2:42:08) combination to win by over four minutes (8:25:28). Deckers sustained a bike crash during one of the final mountain descents but was still able to pull off an untouchable 5:08:30 bike split, then ran a solid 3:07:20 to set a course record of 9:21:29.

In the most impressive age group accomplishment of the day, France’s Yves Tabarant, 61, crossed the line in 9:55:48 to crush the rest of the men 60-64 age group. He swam 1:08:45, biked 5:18:33, and ran 3:19:46.

Ottawa’s Devashish Paul was the fastest Canadian. After a goggles malfunction, the 45 year old pulled it all together to finish with a time of 10:37:35.
