Ironman Lanzarote Results

Morrison and Llanos win, Norton fifth.

Scotland’s Catriona Morrison spent more than 30 minutes on the side of the road due to a broken chain, and overcame a 28-minute deficit after the bike ride to edge out Louise Collins for the win today in Lanzarote. Morrison (10:03:52) won by just 1:28 over the 29-year-old age grouper from England (10:05:20).

Morrison swam 52:38, biked 5:58:02, and ran a race best 3:04:36 marathon for the win (10:03:52). Toronto’s Tara Norton had the day’s top bike split (5:26:22) and finished in fifth (10:17:36).

In the men’s race, Germany’s Maik Twelsiek took control of the race with a dominating 4:40:58 bike ride but faded on the run, allowing Spain’s Eneko Llanos and Belgium’s Bert Jammaer to pass him for first and second place respectively. Llanos swam 47:48, biked 4:53:25, and ran 2:50:20 for the win (8:37:42).
