Vanhoenacker, Dollinger, Wallenhorst and Raelert win

Karnten Ironman Austria Results

Belgium’s Marino Vanhoenacker win today in Austria was history making. Not only did he win his fifth Ironman Austria title in a row, his 7:52:05 finish time set the new course record and is the fourth fastest Ironman time ever. Vanhoenacker exited the water fourth (47:49), then posted the fastest to take the lead (4:18:30), and for good measure added the fastest marathon (2:42:03) to win by over 20 minutes. Fellow Belgian Dennis Devriendt was second (8:12:51), and Austria’s Michael Weiss was third (8:14:50).

Austria’s Eva Dollinger made the home crowd proud as she led the pro women’s race from start to finish, crossing the line in 9:18:50. Her splits were 52:06, 5:02:02, and 3:20:14. Denmark’s Karina Ottosen finished second (9:34:50), and 41 year old age grouper Beate Görtz (GER) biked and ran her way into third (9:38:56).

Frankfurter Sparkasse Ironman European Championship Results

Today Germany’s Andreas Raelert was second out of the water (47:34), threw down a bike split that totally ripped apart the field (4:20:35) – the next closest cyclist was over 10 minutes behind, and he added a 2:53:27 marathon to win in 8:05:15. Defending champion and fellow German Timo Bracht was second (8:10:22). Australia’s Chris McCormack maintained his position off of the bike to finish third (8:14:43).

Sandra Wallenhorst (GER) win went much differently. She came out of the water in ninth (58:57), biked herself into third (5:01:37), then ran the fastest pro women’s marathon (3:00:15) to overtake Switzerland’s Caroline Steffen with 8 km to go for the win in 9:04:27. Steffen held onto second (9:06:42), and Yvonne van Vlerken (NED) was third (9:10:21).

The fastest Canadians were Kristine Plant (11:53:12) from Perth, and Bryce Croll (11:51:29) from Toronto.
