Ironman has added another event within driving distance for a number of Canadian triathletes – Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts will take place on June 11, 2023, in Springfield. The western Massachusetts city is about 90 minutes west of Boston and 20 minutes north of Hartford, Connecticut, making it an easy destination to fly to. For Canadians looking to drive to the event, it’s about an eight-hour drive from Toronto and just under five-hours from Montreal.

Registration for the new race will open on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022.

The event will begin with a 1.9 km downriver swim in the Connecticut River, finishing at T1 in Riverfront Park in downtown Springfield. That will be followed by a 90 km bike “around the region’s world class biking areas, all while showcasing some of the greatest parts of Western Mass.” The athletes will return to the transition in Riverfront Park and finish the race with a 21.1 km run “using the riverwalks and downtown streets of Springfield, Mass.”

The race will have qualifying slots for the 2023 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland which takes place on August 26 and 27.
