Ironman 70.3 Singapore Results

Ellis and Gemmell win.

For the second day in a row at an Ironman 70.3 race, the fastest runners came out on top.

The USA’s Amy Marsh led fellow American Mary Beth Ellis for most of the day until the run, where her 1:28:10 run bettered Marsh’s 1:30:48 split which gave her the win in 4:21:06. Marsh was second 4:22:32, and Australia’s Michelle Wu ran her way into third (4:25:31). Live coverage spotted Ironman 70.3 World Champion Jodie Swallow with the lead men during the swim but she did not finish.

Making his Ironman 70.3 debut, New Zealand’s Kris Gemmell won with a race best swim (27:44) and run (1:13:40). Gemmell won a final run battle with South Africa’s James Cunnama to cross the line in 3:50:56. Cunnama followed in 3:51:45, and Australia’s Pete Jacobs got third (3:54:25).

Here is what Gemmell tweeted about his win – “Bada bing bada BOOM! Great 2 get the big W on debut here. Freakn hot & humid bt awesum race. Yeeha.”
