Ironman 70.3 New Orleans turns to Duathlon

Dibens and Kienle win.

The swim segment for this morning’s Ironman 70.3 New Orleans was cancelled due to high winds on Lake Pontchartrain. The event became a bike-run race with the professionals leaving in time trial format, 30 seconds apart from each other.

Germany’s Sebastian Kienle dominated the bike (2:02:18) then ran a 1:14:26 half marathon to win by 5 minutes over Paul Amey. Great Britain’s Julie Dibens also had the top bike split (2:15:16) but had to run 1:23:21 to stay 1:16 ahead of New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner.

A pair of B.C. triathletes were the top Canadians. Trevor Wurtele got 9th (3:28:01), and Amy Kirkham 15th (3:58:15).
