Ironman 70.3 New Orleans Results
Potts and Warriner win.
Andy Potts (USA) used the combination of the fastest swim (23:58) and run (1:12:40) splits to win in New Orleans today. For New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner, she kept in touch with the race leaders after the swim and bike, and then used a race best run split of 1:21:35 to earn her victory.
The fastest Canadians were a pair of Calgarians. Thirty-nine year old Ben Tuety (4:54:28) and thirty-eight year old Marie-Claude Reid (5:51:52). Belle River, Ontario’s Margaret Wojtowicz, 62, won the women’s 60-64 age category in 7:39:40. From Ottawa, sixty year old Gisele Collard was second (7:53:07).
What happened to pre-race favourite Chris McCormack? He dropped out after the bike after his 25:34 swim and 2:11 bike split left him well back of the leaders. “Race over early. 6 weeks (of) travel showed today. U can’t bluff it,” said Macca on twitter. “Struggled with power & fitness. 3 more days and commitments done, then back to work.”
