Ironman has moved Ironman 70.3 Ohio from its original venue of Delaware, Ohio to Sandusky, “Ohio’s Water Park Capital.” One of those parks, Cedar Point, used to host the Rev3 Cedar Point triathlon. Set on Lake Erie, Sandusky even offers an international ferry terminal with daily trips to and from Canada’s Pelee Island (in non-COVID times, anyway).

According to a release from Ironman today, the event will take place on July 24, 2022 and features a “1.2-mile swim in Sandusky Bay, a rolling 56-mile bike through scenic Erie county and a 13.1-mile run along the shoreline of Lake Erie capping off with a thrilling finish in downtown Sandusky.”

The first edition of Ironman 70.3 Ohio took place in Delaware in 2016. That race featured two transition zones – one assumes that the new venue in Sandusky will have just one transition area.

Registration for the new event opens on Nov. 10, 2021.
