Introducing XTERRA Malaysia

Scheduled for April 27 & 28, 2013 at Putrajaya.

The XTERRA World Tour boosted its offerings in Asia with the addition of XTERRA Malaysia in 2013.  The event, scheduled for April 28 at Putrajaya, will feature a $15,000 pro prize purse and 15 slots into the XTERRA World Championship for age group athletes.

XTERRA Malaysia ScenicThe race will combine a one-mile swim in Putrajaya Lake fronting the Maritime Centre with an 18-mile mountain bike through Challenge Park and a 6-mile trail run. The weekend will be packed with activities with a Sprint distance off-road tri and trail runs happening the day before on April 27 and a Team Relay option running concurrently with the championship contenders on the 28th.

“We’ve got a vibrant, growing participant base in Asia and are thrilled to offer athletes another opportunity to race off-road, experience a new destination, and qualify for the XTERRA World Championship,” said XTERRA President Janet Clark.  “XTERRA is a great fit for Malaysia – a place where adventure reigns – and we’re very happy to welcome new athletes from the region into our Tribe.”

Putrajaya, which sits just 25 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, joins established XTERRA World Tour events in the region that include XTERRA Philippines (March 2), XTERRA Saipan (March 9), XTERRA Guam (March 23), and XTERRA Japan (August 24).

“Putrajaya is rich in nature and serene landscapes,” said organizer Eunice Lee of RADIUS MALAYSIA.  “There is so much to explore here and with XTERRA we can provide an opportunity for visitors and locals alike to experience the nature that Malaysia has to offer.”

Race director Dave Spence, an enthusiast and fan of the XTERRA series having raced in the Philippines, New Zealand, and the XTERRA World Championship in Maui himself, is building the course and assures a quality experience for participants.

2013 XTERRA Malaysia is set to be a challenge and an experience not to be missed!
