On Sunday, September 21, 2014, more than 600 professional and age group athletes will participate in the inaugural Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon. Lionel Sanders, one of the standouts of the 2014 season, will lead a professional field competing for the title of Barrelman Champion.

To date in 2014, Sanders has placed first in three Ironman 70.3 events in the U.S. and just two weeks before Barrelman, he will compete in Mont-Tremblant, QU for the World Ironman 70.3 crown. However, he will have to fend off a number of talented Ontario and Canadian athletes in the Barrelman event.

The Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon will take athletes on a journey through the scenic Niagara Region, starting with the two-kilometre swim in the clear waters of the Welland Recreational Waterway at 9AM. The second stage offers a flat and FAST 90 kilometre bike course, which will take athletes on quiet roads out of Welland and into Niagara Falls and provides lots of opportunity for spectators to follow their athlete or simply enjoy the excitement.

The Recharge with Milk Run Course is what makes this event truly special. The 21.1 km half marathon will take athletes across the front of the American and Canadian Falls twice. The athletes will finish past the Falls at Kingsbridge Park amid the expo village and Mill Street Beer Garden.

The Niagara Falls Barrelman offers an open $5,000 prize purse and will also have three qualifying spots per age group for the 2015 ITU world Championships to be held in Motala, Sweden in June 2015.
