Facelift to the Triathlon Canada Excellence Awards

Accepting nominations until May 20 for the Coaching and William J.Hallett Excellence Award.

Triathlon Canada’s annual awards program has received a facelift including the launch of its first-ever namesake accolade.

Now dubbed the Triathlon Canada Excellence Awards, the program recognizes exceptional performances each year in a variety of categories including: age group and paratriathlon; elite; coaching; and the organization’s passionate volunteers.

“Be it our national team athletes, coaches, Board members, staff or volunteers, Triathlon Canada is focused on achieving excellence both on and off the playing field,” said Alan Trivett, chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “We believe this new name better exemplifies the mission of all members of the organization.”

As part of the make over, Triathlon Canada also renamed its Significant Contributor/Volunteer of the Year Award to the William J. Hallett Excellence Award in honour of the outstanding efforts and time commitment to Triathlon Canada’s past president, Bill Hallett.

Hallett was a founding member of Triathlon Canada who became the organization’s volunteer president from 1996-2005. A Triathlon Canada Hall of Fame member, Hallett was instrumental in taking Triathlon Canada from operating on a shoe string budget to one of the most respected non-profit sport bodies in the country.

“Bill Halett’s name is synonymous with triathlon in Canada,” added Trivett. “Bill has touched all facets of our sport – from competing on his own in a variety of race distances to helping with administrative requests to serving the role as our longest standing president. His volunteer spirit and tireless efforts to growing triathlon into a mainstream sport is unmatched. I am very proud we are able to recognize significant volunteer contributions, which are the cornerstone to the success of Triathlon Canada, through Bill’s name.”

True to its namesake, the William J. Hallett Excellence Award will be presented to an individual who has served triathlon in Canada as a long-standing contributor or volunteer. The award will recognize individual contributions representing a variety of functions including: Board or committee member, coach, official, administrator, patron, media, or financial contributor.

Triathlon Canada is currently accepting nomination forms for the Coaching and William J.Hallett Excellence Award categories (Nomination Forms links below). Nominations for these prestigious awards will be accepted until Monday, May 20th and can be submitted to raceentries@triathloncanada.com.
