Triathlon Canada announced it will host a national camp for qualifying age group athletes in 2025. Only those selected will attend the four-day camp from May 26-29 in Victoria, British Columbia. To qualify, you must be a current or past Triathlon Canada Age Group World Championship Team member, raced an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 in the last two years, and hold a current Triathlon Canada annual membership.

Boosting Canadian representation at races

“We aim to make this camp available to the most dedicated members of our Triathlon Canada community,” states Triathlon Canada on their website. “Final selections to the program will be made accounting for competition results, regional representation and gender balance.” Triathletes must fill out an Expression Of Interest (EOI) to be considered for one of 25 coveted spots. The aim is to enhance skills and performance to boost the caliber of age group athletes representing Canada at World Championship races.

Camp activities are lead by Triathlon Canada’s coaches, athletes and other members of its high performance community. Organizers are pulling from other local triathlon experts with a bike workshop on mechanics and maintenance. Group lunches, training sessions and a social event provide ample opportunity for triathletes to connect and share their experiences.

Training like the elites

Highlights of the camp include one-to-two training sessions each day at the same facility used by elites, The Pacific Institute of Sport Excellence. There is also a heavy focus on hands-on seminars, presentations by high-profile guest speakers and networking opportunities. Camp attendees have access to the same services as elites through The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific. The institute provides mental health, nutrition, and strength services. Recovery sessions include a visit to the floating Havn Spa in downtown Victoria.

The competition to secure a spot is on as the deadline to submit an EOI by March 31, 2025 is closing in. More information is available on Triathlon Canada’s website.

Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk went down during the second lap of the bike, but was able to get back up to the group, but the effort affected his run.

If you are a selected triathletes, expect a high-caliber group of staff, coaches and presenters and even an opportunity to hob-knob with some of Canada’s elite triathletes. The camp follows a weekend of fast racing at Ironman Victoria 70.3, acting as a great springboard to launch another season of racing.
