Don’t miss the Personal Best McMaster Indoor Triathlon

Triathletes near McMaster University in Hamilton still have time to get involved in one of Canada’s best indoor triathlons this up-coming Sunday, January 31st.

Coach Barrie Shepley and his coaching company, Personal Best, have turned their indoor triathlon into an anticipated event in the GTA each winter. With an elite wave (attracting names like Lionel Sanders, Kristen Marchant and Alex Vanderlinden in the past), experienced and beginner triathletes can challenge themselves in a competitive atmosphere.

The unique format makes for a short but exciting race. Athletes have 15 minutes at each leg of the race to complete their maximum distance. At McMaster University’s athletic facilities, the event includes a pool swim, stationary bike ride and track run.

Triathletes can push themselves as much or as little as they like, but no one comes in last with this format. It’s a great chance to make it what you want — a chance to race or just a training day.

Waves of 12 athletes go at a time and accumulate points in each leg. The triathlete with the most points (having gone the furthest in each leg) will rank highest. There are age-group categories and relay options if you want to compete as a team.

Register here. There is no race day registration and the event is expected to sell-out.

Personal Best also had another event planned for this winter — their Snowshoe and Run Race to take place on February 7th. Unfortunately, the event is cancelled this year due to no snow but triathletes in the Bolton, Ontario area should plan for it next winter as a great chance to try out a unique format of winter triathlon.
