Australia’s Josh Amberger led out of the water (23:49) but it was all New Zealand’s Bevan Docherty after that. Docherty got to the front with a top ride of 2:10:23, and followed that up with a race leading 1:15:20 half marathon to take the victory in 3:52:55. Victoria’s Brent McMahon started the run in third (1:19 down to second place Amberger) but chased him down with a 1:15:40 run to claim second (3:54:36). Amberger held on for third (3:57:09). Kelowna’s Trevor Wurtele finished fifth (3:58:05), and Penticton’s Jeff Symonds sixth (3:58:37).
Jason Sandquist of Duncan, B.C., won the men’s 40-44 age group with a 31:06 swim, 2:24:04 bike, and 1:24:16 run to finish in 4:23:21.
Top 10 Pro Men
American Elizabeth Lyles, the 2012 Ironman Wisconsin Champion, steadily moved through the field and posted the top women’s run of 1:23:38 to secure the victory in 4:28:37. Penticton’s Janelle Morrison crossed the finish line in seventh (4:55:26).
