Changes made to the 5150 Series to enhance pro fields

Champions qualify to race at Ironman and 70.3 World Championships.

The World Triathlon Corporation announced today that changes are in store for the 5150 series.

Essentially, as race fans, we should see more competitive professional fields vying for the Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. championship.

In addition, and possibly even more exciting is the fact that professional winners at the Hy-Vee 5150 Championship, Ironman 70.3 World Championship, or Ironman World Championship now automatically qualify to race at the following year’s Championship at any of those three events provided that they validate their slots during that year.

So for this year it looks like this:

“The 2011 Hy-Vee Champions, 2011 Ironman Champions and 2011 Ironman 70.3 Champions will receive an automatic invitation to the 2012 event, provided they validate their slot by completing and scoring in at least one 5150 series event during the qualifying period (excluding the 2011 Hy-Vee event).”
