Challenge Rimini hosts the ETU Half Distance Championship this weekend
Challenge Rimini and the ETU will host the European Half Distance Championship this Sunday, May 24. More than 2,600 athletes from 25 countries will take part in the individual race, the relay, the junior challenge and the sprint event.
Race Director Alessandro Alessandri said, “We are proud of these numbers. Numbers which confirm the appreciation for our work at TD SGR Rimini. A work we have started three years ago with this event and many more years ago in the duathlon and triathlon world.”
He continued, “The European Triathlon Union has chosen to assign the European title here in Rimini and this proves the quality and reliability of the organisation that we have built up in the previous two editions of the race.
“Rimini is ready, together with us, to be the scenario of an event that, even more this year, aspire to impress and to inspire athletes and spectators. We are doing our best to offer an unforgettable experience and to crown the European Champions 2015.”
The race takes place in one of Italy’s most popular beach resorts and traverses one of the most historically rich courses. The 1.9 km swim is in the warm waters of the Adriatic Sea while the bike takes on some most challenging hills surrounding Rimini and visits the historic towns of Coriano, Montegrimano, Monte Cerignone and Montescudo before heading back down to the Riviera. The three-lap run is along Rimini’s famed promenade and ends in Parco Fellini.
