Challenge Penticton deal to be finalized soon

The deal includes exclusivity, and no marketing fees.

The Penticton Western News reports that the City of Penticton is in the closing stages of finalizing their deal with the Challenge Family to host Challenge Penticton.

We already know about the course remaining the same, the introduction of wave starts, increased pro prize money, and a festival, but there are a few more interesting details.

While full details can’t be released yet (a public meeting to discuss the changes is expected to occur once the deal is signed), it was revealed that; the city would no longer pay a marketing fee, the Penticton Triathlon Race Society will have control over merchandising and sponsorship, and they will be responsible for liability and other operational issues.

Particularly interesting is Penticton’s exclusivity for having a Challenge race in Canada, and the possibility for the race to host a World Championship for long distance triathlon.
