Challenge Wales, which will take place on June 18, 2022, marks the return of Challenge Family to Great Britain after a seven-year absence. The half-distance race takes place along the spectacular Pembrokeshire coastline. If that sounds familiar, it should – Pembrokeshire hosts Ironman Wales every year.

The new event was formerly known as the Wales Triathlon organized by Activity Wales Events. The race is based in Fishguard.

According to a release from Challenge Family, the course includes a two-lap, 1.9 km swim in Fishguard Bay. The 90 km bike begins with a steady 5 km climb, followed by a fast section to St. David’s, “the country’s smallest city,” From there the athletes enjoy stunning views of the Atlantic as they climb to Trefin and Mathry, then return to St David’s before returning to T2. The four-lap, 21.2 km run follows a paved coastal track that includes the town’s breakwater.

The race will offer a pro race and age group qualifying slots to the Challenge Championship, which has traditionally been held at the x-bionicsphere in Samorin, Slovakia.
