Challenge Family triathlon series has announced the addition of a prize purse for pros racing in their European races in 2016.

This initiative is multifaceted, according to CEO Zibi Szlufcik. “All our races are committed to developing the careers of up and coming pros, as well as forming strong partnerships with those established in the sport, creating professional fields that inspire age groupers as well as attract media coverage for triathlon.”

Athletes will race for a portion of the €140,000 end-of-season bonus. The bonus will be awarded to the top 5 men and women who earn the most points over the course of the 2016 European Challenge Series race calendar. The bonus division for both men and women is as follows:

First place: €25,000

Second place: €17,000

Third place: €13,000

Fourth place: €10,000

Fifth place: €5,000

There are 18 races on the European circuit for athletes to choose from. They will earn points from any five but only two qualifying races may be full distance. Points will be weighted according to race distance and results. All Challenge Family European races will continue to have prize purses, rewarding places one to eight for full distance races and one to six for half distance. For full distance races, the prize purse is €38,000. For half distance races, it is €19,000.

This initiative comes after several additions to the Challenge Family structure this year, including monthly announcements of top professionals’ earnings in the sport.
