Last December Ironman announced a new race in St. Petersburg, Russia – today Challenge Family announced it will have a new race in the country’s capital and largest city. Challenge Moscow is scheduled to take place on July 18, 2021.

“The entire race will take place in the city center of Moscow,” says Elena Krivenkova, head of the Challenge Moscow organizing committee.  “This is a unique chance to see our beautiful city while you’re swimming, riding your bike and running.  Athletes and spectators will enjoy a big concert of Russian musicians, an award ceremony and fireworks over the Moskva River.”

The race will pass by famous tourist attractions including Red Square, the Kremlin, the Moscow River and Gorky Park.

Russian hockey legend Alexander Ovechkin will be attending the event, race organizers said.

“For us as Challenge Family it’s amazing to expand our portfolio to Russia, going even more international during these crazy times,” says Challenge Family CEO Jort Vlam. “In addition, it is good to give Russian athletes the opportunity to participate in such an international event in their own country.”

The event will include both pro and age group events. You can find out more about the race here.
