Triathlon Canada is proud to announce that it will host the 2014 Canadian Duathlon Championships in partnership with the Toronto Triathlon Festival. The July 13 event will provide athletes with the opportunity to experience a truly urban duathlon in Toronto.

Simon Whitfield recalls his early years in duathlon and the announcement, “I have special memories of racing duathlon back in the day… I believe sport generally is about accessibility and participation, so adding this race will allow more people to join in the fun, which is a great development.”

One of the main features of the Toronto Triathlon Festival is the key role the city itself will play, as the urban race route takes participants on an unprecedented path along Toronto’s harbourfront and through the city’s downtown core.
“We are proud to play host to the Canadian Duathlon Championships,” said Toronto Triathlon Festival President, Jeff Chong. “Duathlon is a wonderful part of the multi sport family, and we are hopeful that duathletes will proudly contest their national championships on the TTF race course.”

The 2014 Canadian Duathlon Championships will offer ten World Championships Qualifying Spots per age group for the World Duathlon Championships scheduled for Adelaide, Australia in October of 2015.

“Triathlon Canada is the national governing body for the sport of duathlon and as a result, this race is an important part of our stable of events,” said Tim Wilson, CEO, Triathlon Canada. “We are delighted to be able to offer our duathletes a national championship as part of such a major race platform in Toronto.”

Registration for the Canadian Duathlon Championships (as part of the 2014 Toronto Triathlon Festival) will open on Tuesday, April 1, at 9:00 am EST.
