Canadian age group standouts at Ironman Florida

At the 15th Ironman Florida this past weekend, Tommy Lettner of Mississauga, Ontario led the Canadian age grouper charge by claiming top spot in the men’s 70-74 age group.

Lettner opened with a 1:36:24 swim, rode 6:27:19 to grab the lead in his age group race, and ran 5:08:54 to take the 2013 Ironman Florida age group crown in 13:29:37.

Aurora, Ontario’s Pamela Allan took second in the women’s 35-39 division by swimming 1:14:03, biking 5:21:06, and running 3:51:21 to stop the clock at 10:37:55.

Margaret Wojtowicz of Belle River, Ontario swam 1:39:55, biked 6:51:46, and ran 7:15:24 to finish in 16:15:11 which enable her to take third among women 65-69.

The fastest male and female Canadian age groupers at Ironman Florida were David Matheson of Penticton, B.C., and the previously mentioned Pamela Allan.

Matheson swam 1:00:25, biked 4:47:06, and ran 3:13:50 for a total time of 9:08:56. That netted him fifth place in the very competitive men’s 40-44 age category, and 54th overall.
