Campbell wins in Barbados

Sweetland gets third and Brault sixth.

Vancouver’s Lauren Campbell showed that she is primed and ready to make an assault on earning a slot on Canada’s Women’s Olympic Triathlon Team.

Today at the Bridgetown ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup race in Barbados, Campbell took top spot in the women’s race by outrunning everyone in the final 5 km (17:49) . Victoria’s Kirsten Sweetland also showed fine form in placing third. Canadian’s Sara-Anne Brault finished sixth, Dominika Jamnicky 11th, and Dorelle Hinton 12th.

“I am trying for my second Olympics for Canada this year, so this is really a training race for me,” said Campbell to the Barbados Advocate. “I have been based in Florida doing some warm weather training getting ready for our qualifiers, which are in April and May in Sydney, Australia and San Diego, California,” Campbell noted.

Germany’s Daniel Unger won the men’s race.
