British Formula One Star Hosts Triathlon in Support of Cancer Reasearch
From Formula One to triathlon, British superstar Jenson Button is both dedicated and fast. For the past three years, the 2009 Formula One World Champion has spearheaded the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon—using his fame to make a difference by raising funds for charity. This year, however, the Trust is partnering with Cancer Research UK. The race will take place on Saturday July 12, on a private estate in Bedfordshire.
The race is both competitive and festive, with a unique format that gives athletes a chance to race twice. A short course preliminary heat of a 300 m lake swim, 9 km bike and 2.5K run, will be followed by a final heat of a 750 m swim, 15 km bike ride, 5 km run.
Commenting on the new partnership Button said, “Having Cancer Research UK as our new charity partner is fantastic, it will ensure that the 2014 Triathlon is the biggest and best yet…I am very proud that the Jenson Button Trust will do its bit to raise as much money and awareness as possible.”
“We are extremely excited about our new partnership with Jenson Button,” said Jools Tait, Director of Partnerships, Cancer Research UK. “[H]is personal passion, and commitment reflects our determination to succeed in the fight against cancer. Today’s announcement takes his commitment beyond the race track as the Jenson Button Trust pledges to help us beat cancer sooner,” Tait continued.
