Both Terenzo Bozzone (NZL) and Kate Major (AUS) used their half marathons to come from behind to win today at Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island.

Fourth out of the water (25:30), Bozzone stayed close to race leader Paul Ambose (GBR) during the bike (2:18:38), then made his move on the run by posting the best half marathon time of 1:14:55, finishing in 4:01:15, 55 seconds ahead of Australia’s Tim Berkel (4:02:05). Ambrose finished in third (4:03:01).

Major remained third after the swim (27:51) and bike (2:35:33) but her 1:24:33 run was good enough to pass a struggling Samantha Warriner (NZL), and stay ahead of the fast charging Caitlin Snow (USA) to win in 4:30:36. Snow’s very quick 1:19:15 run allowed her to grab second place (4:30:59), while Warriner held on for third (4:33:32). Quebec’s Annie Gervais finished ninth (4:46:10).
