Bennett to no longer race for Australia

To race for USA at 2012 Olympics?

Star triathlete Greg Bennett has received approval from Triathlon Australia to be released from his obligations from representing Australia in international competitions – namely Olympic and ITU events.

Bennett requested the release so that he can fully take part in his wife’s (American Laura Bennett – nee Reback) drive towards the 2012 Olympic games in London. Together they have based their careers out of the United States for the past 11 years.

This also leaves Bennett open to competing for the USA (he is a dual citizen of the USA and Australia), but he has not confirmed whether he too will attempt to make the 2012 USA Olympic Triathlon Team. He finished fourth at the 2004 Olympic Triathlon in Athens – the top Australian male.
