Bechtel fifth at Steelhead 70.3

Sean Bechtel and Nicole Guembel led the Canadian charge at the Steelhead 70.3 in Michigan

Caledon’s Sean Bechtel and St. Catherine’s Nicole Guembel led the Canadian charge at the Steelhead 70.3 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Bechtel was fifth (4:03:46) behind American race winner Andy Potts (3:54:38). Guembel was 11th (4:38:53) behind New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner (4:17:57), who celebrated her 38th birthday with the win. In a freak accident New Zealand’s Bryan Rhodes ruptured his Achilles at the start of the swim while running into the water. In true Rhodes fashion, he continued with the swim, exited the water in fourth but, when he tried to stand, he found out he was seriously injured and was immediately removed from the course and off to the hospital.
