From press release.

MultiSport Canada announced late Monday afternoon that the Bala Falls Triathlon in Muskoka, Ontario has been called off for 2016, citing the national championship at the Ottawa Triathlon on the same weekend as reason for the cancellation. Race directors say the race will return in 2017.

“With last week’s announcement of the National Championships in Ottawa on July 23/24, we feel it is in the best interest of the sport to cancel our Bala event scheduled for that same weekend,” MultiSport Canada posted on their website. “This will give many of the athletes who would normally race in Bala the opportunity to compete at the National Championships and we hope to see those athletes back in Bala in 2017.”

MultiSport Canada founder John Salt says the decision was difficult, but that he and the MultiSport team want to support Triathlon Canada and Triathlon Ontario, the organizations standing behind the championships at the Ottawa Triathlon.

Phil Dale, executive organizer of Triathlon Ontario, adds that “MultiSport Canada and its team have played an integral part in the growth and development of the sport of triathlon and duathlon in Ontario for a number of years, particularly at the grass roots level.” He continued, “While its disappointing one of the oldest races in the province won’t take place in 2016, we, along with everyone in the province, look forward to seeing it back again in 2017, carrying on its proud tradition. The announcement by MultiSport Canada to suspend the race for 2016, sparing Ontario athletes the tough decision of choosing between two great racing experiences, is demonstrative of MSC’s commitment to the development of the sport in Ontario.”

MultiSport Canada is offering refunds to all those registered for Bala Falls.
