Angela Naeth wins Ironman 70.3 Racine

Canada’s Angela Naeth swam 29:17 (down 3:37 to swim leader American Haley Chura), then got to the front with a race leading 2:19:17 ride, taking a 1:27 lead over Great Britain’s Catriona Morrison to the run. Morrison actually closed the gap to four seconds at the 6.6 mile mark but Naeth had another gear left in her. Naeth broke away from Morrison and finished with a 1:22:52 half marathon to win in 4:15:00. Australia’s Mirinda Carfare had a late surge and passed Morrison with a 1:20:23 run to take second (4:15:51). Morrison finished third (4:16:04)

Denmark’s Martin Jensen started the day with the top swim of 24:01, then on the bike American Andrew Starykowicz rode the top split of 2:02:36 to take a 1:45 lead over Jensen heading into the half marathon. By the halfway point of the run, Jensen regained the lead and had a 19 second advantage over Starykowicz. Jensen closed with a 1:15:16 run to take victory in 3:47:05. Starykowicz finished second (3:48:34), and Russia’s Ivan Vasiliev used the top run of the day (1:13:31) to get third in 3:51:22.
