Alistair Brownlee returns to triathlon with the launch of his own line of gels
Tried and tested by one of the sport's greatest athletes it promises to impart its winning formula on all athletes

He may have retired from racing, but Alistair Brownlee has not been kicking back binge watching Netflix. He’s been in the lab developing a new product which he recently launched live on Instagram.
Truefuels is a gel that Brownlee has been crafting and testing himself in the lab during training for months. The product is collaboration with Goran Vasiljevic. He frequently shared the process with followers on social media and officially launched the product in a live video on Instagram.
The line up of products is still under wraps, however. The official website does not list the products themselves. So far it has been revealed that they include a gel. There is a mention about stacking the products together with its other products, including for hydration. The public will have to wait a little longer to see and taste the final products.

Promises to have a winning formula like Brownlee
Bringing his experience as a double gold Olympic medallist and arguably one of triathlon’s G.O.A.T, he imparted his knowledge to develop a product that “truly supports endurance athletes through every mile.” Brownlee said the gel stands apart from other products because of its neutral taste, ease on the gut, rate of carbohydrate absorption, stackability with their entire line of products, and quick release energy.
Truefuels is lightly sweetened in order to avoid flavour fatigue, which is intended to make fuelling easier as it more palatable. With natural ingredients said to be easy on the stomach, reducing the risk of gastrointestinal issues that are a sure way to tank any race. A one-to-one glucose to fructose ratio is designed to maximize absorption so athletes benefit from intake quickly. It’s compatibility with ?? provides fluid stackability to dial in your hydration and energy needs. With the steady release of energy, it claims to keep athletes performing their best from start to finish.

Teaming up science and elite athletes
“Developing the product with TrueFuels has been fascinating,” said Brownlee in a video. “We started with a clear product and worked backwards from there to try and develop the perfect product, and really bring that combination of experience, science, real world testing, lab testing into a product that every consumer, like you, can use.”
Brownlee said his goal is to start a fuelling movement. He met Vasiljevic at a business meeting and the conversation eventually lead to the lab. Vasiljevic said it is the pursuit of excellence that drove their agenda.
“There’s nothing inside that is not a clear purpose or has a clear function” said Vasiljevic in a promotional video. He added the products were for use during training and racing, post-race, and that they will “elevate you or everyday health in regards to athletic ability.”
The duo consulted with scientists and nutritionalists, and tested it with 50 elite athletes, including Brownlee, to develop the range of products.
