Alexander and Kessler win Ironman 70.3 Eagleman

Australia’s Craig Alexander and the USA’s Meredith Kessler won today’s 17^th edition of Ironman 70.3 Eagleman

Alexander trailed Amercian TJ Tollakson by just a few seconds after the 90 km bike ride, and he easily took over the lead with a race best 1:15:07 half marathon to win in 3:44:57. Fellow Aussie Greg Bennett pushed Alexander from behind to take second (3:47:14), and Tollakson held firm for third (3:48:52). Toronto’s Andrew Imrie swam 24:10, biked 2:12:21, and ran 1:27:21 to complete the top ten in 4:07:02.

Kessler led from start to finish with top splits in all segments (23:52 swim, 2:19:00 bike, 1:26:28 run) to earn a dominating victory in 4:12:40. Americans Margaret Shapiro (4:22:38) and Kristin Andrews (4:26:56) claimed second and third respectively. Kitchener’s Kimberly Fabian finished 11^th overall and won the women’s 40-44 age group (4:42:52).
